Nick Pope has written six books (three non-fiction titles, two science fiction novels, and an action thriller), all of which are international best-sellers, and have been translated into many different languages.

Blood Brothers
While best known for having run the British government’s UFO project, Nick Pope served for 21 years in the Ministry of Defence, and his final posting was as an acting deputy director in the Directorate of Defence Security. Blood Brothers is a hard-hitting action thriller that draws on some areas of Nick Pope’s knowledge that he could never write about in a non-fiction book, in view of the need to avoid disclosing classified information about Special Forces operations, counter-terrorism policy, and the inner workings of the intelligence agencies. Blood Brothers is as realistic an account as is possible of the ongoing struggle against terrorism in the UK – sometimes the truth can really only be told as fiction.

Encounter in Rendlesham Forest
Over a series of three nights in December 1980 an extraordinary series of UFO incidents took place in Rendlesham Forest in the UK, next to the twin United States Air Force bases of Bentwaters and Woodbridge. This was not some vague sighting of lights in the sky, but a controlled landing and take-off. The UFO was tracked on military radar and left physical evidence at the landing site, including damage and scorch marks on trees, indentations in the frozen ground, and abnormally high levels of radiation. The UFO was seen by dozens of military witnesses, including the Deputy Base Commander. The object fired light beams at some of the men and, later, into the Weapons Storage Area, where some military personnel based there at the time allege that nuclear weapons were kept.
Encounter in Rendlesham Forest tells the extraordinary story of the world’s most compelling and best-evidenced UFO incident – a case that is more significant than the infamous Roswell Incident. Co-written by former UK government UFO investigator Nick Pope, with John Burroughs and Jim Penniston, the two military witnesses at the heart of these encounters, this disturbing and compelling book tells the inside story of what really happened, and lifts the lid on the true role played by government, the military and the intelligence community in relation to the UFO phenomenon. This controversial new book is largely based on recently declassified government documents and is the only UFO book ever to have needed security clearance from both the British and American governments. Encounter in Rendlesham Forest will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about the UFO mystery.
“Full of paranoia about the government – not all of it, or even most of it, unwarranted.”
The Washington Post
“Pope’s questions and detailed evidence certainly give readers on both sides of the UFO debate plenty to chew on.”
Publishers Weekly
“This is probably the most well-documented UFO incident ever. Author Nick Pope had full cooperation from two of the main eye-witnesses and also gathered a lot of previously unseen material through the Freedom of Information Act. This is a well-researched, well-written, fascinating explication of the events.”
San Francisco Book Review
“A well-researched, well-written, fascinating explication of the events.”
City Book Review
“Something very, very strange happened in that forest, and this powerful book shines a clear light into that mystery.”
Whitley Strieber, author of Communion
“Read this book and you will be convinced that we are not alone in the Cosmos. It will open your mind to ‘the broader reality’ that holds so much promise if we only embrace it positively.”
Paul T. Hellyer, Former Defence Minister of Canada
“This work is a vitally important addition to the growing acceptance of UFO visitations to Earth.”
Edgar Mitchell, Ph.D., Apollo 14 Lunar Module Pilot

Open Skies Closed Minds
An overview of the UFO mystery, written by the man who used to run the British Government’s UFO project. This is a true insider’s account of the phenomenon, and lifts the lid not just on classic cases like Roswell and the Rendlesham Forest incident, but on less well known cases too. This groundbreaking and highly controversial book highlights cases from the US, the UK, and the rest of the world, with Nick drawing on his firsthand government experience to reveal what the authorities really know and think about UFOs, alien abductions, crop circles and animal mutilations. Open Skies Closed Minds was featured on Newsnight, serialized in the Daily Mail and reached number three in the hardback non-fiction list, staying in the top ten for ten weeks.
“Pope’s is the first book on UFOs from someone with inside knowledge and access to Top Secret material.”
The Sunday Times
“If you have the slightest interest in unidentified flying objects, you owe it to yourself to read what Nick Pope has to say.”
The Independent
“A provocative book, written in a reasoned, dispassionate manner.”
Review of Books

The Uninvited
Former UK Government UFO investigator Nick Pope has written the definitive book on the alien abduction mystery, delving into folklore, the contactee movement, and more modern claims that people have not just seen UFOs, but encountered extraterrestrials. The Uninvited also examines the reaction of governments, and of the scientific community, as well as examining the world’s most famous alien contact cases, and highlighting the common threads that bind them together. Nick Pope devotes a significant portion of the book to detailing a number of cases that he investigated personally, before drawing things together by discussing the various theories that might explain what lies behind this fascinating mystery.
“Has the understated authority a reader would expect from the man who acted as the official investigator into UFO sightings for the British Ministry of Defence. Lacking the hysteria of so many other books on the genre, Pope’s report takes the high road.”
Publishers Weekly
“A good read, and raises some thought-provoking issues.”

Operation Thunder Child
In this science fiction techno-thriller, former Ministry of Defence employee Nick Pope blends what he knows about political decision-making and warfighting with knowledge and experience gained on the British Government’s UFO project. The result is an alien invasion novel packed with insights into real-world military strategy, tactics and hardware, making for a terrifyingly real account. The tagline for this controversial book was “The truth can only be told in fiction”, and this led to much speculation in the UFO and conspiracy theory community, especially when it emerged that the manuscript of Operation Thunder Child had gone through the government’s security clearance procedure. Film/TV rights are available.
“A fast-paced action thriller, incorporating genuine UFO incidents.”
Focus (Ministry of Defence in-house magazine)
“An unsettling and plausible novel.”

Operation Lightning Strike
This book and the prequel, Operation Thunder Child, are the only two science fiction novels ever to have gone through the British Government’s security vetting procedure, on the basis that Nick Pope was involved not just in official government research and investigation into the UFO phenomenon, but in highly classified work on the Gulf War and other sensitive operations. Operation Lightning Strike is a fast-paced action thriller written in the style of Tom Clancy, but dealing with themes more commonly found in The X-Files. If you want to know what would really happen if we faced an alien invasion, this book tells the story. Film/TV rights are available.
“A disturbing and highly entertaining piece of fiction.”
